Conference room systems. What's the right choice ?

The sound equipment in a conference room is a singular concern. Sound diffusion and audio capture must meet the highest quality standards. That's why in this article you'll find the fundamental principles of conference sound systems, the essential selection criteria and the different models available from Rondson.

How it works ?

The sound equipment used for meeting rooms or general assemblies has one notable feature: the use of individual microphones, which are positioned on individual lecterns for each participant. These microphones can be of different technologies, whether wireless or wired, and are specifically designed to pick up the voice.

These microphones are then connected to a control unit, which can also manage other audio and video sources. This control unit is then connected to a sound distribution system via a preamplifier/amplifier. Sound diffusion is generally provided by a network of 100-volt in-line loudspeakers, which guarantees uniform sound quality throughout the room thanks to multi-directional diffusion.

Audio management: The role of the chairman and delegates

With a multitude of microphones scattered around the room, how can you guarantee the quality of the sound signal without disturbance or unwanted noise? To provide effective sound for a meeting with 10 or more participants, conference systems are based on a simple concept: the use of a "chair microphone" and "delegate microphones".

The microphones are equipped with more or less advanced functions, allowing the speaker to speak or to give up the floor, thus avoiding situations where several people are speaking simultaneously. The chairman's microphone is the meeting's mediator. He or she can control the other console microphones and assign the floor to each speaker from a control unit. This ensures that the sound broadcast to the room remains intelligible to all participants.

Conference room systems, How to choose ?

Sound quality

Sound systems designed for meeting rooms are mainly made up of top-of-the-range equipment. Given the importance of meetings, impeccable audio quality is imperative. The system aims to enhance the meeting atmosphere and put participants in the best possible conditions. To this end, hearing comfort plays a key role.

A conference system must guarantee audio quality that is perfectly understandable at all times. This is why the use of directional desk microphones, capable of capturing only the voice without background noise, is favoured.

Reliability

Confidence in the system's operation is also of paramount importance. A quality conference system must be reliable at all times. To achieve this, it relies on high-quality, robust equipment. Installing a public address system is a long-term investment, as microphone technology changes relatively little over the years.

Wired or wireless systems

By default, public address systems for conference rooms are wired. Although wireless microphones are more expensive to buy, they have undeniable advantages: they offer great flexibility in terms of configuration and allow you to create meeting rooms that can be adapted to suit the number of participants or the type of event.
